JERUSALEM, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Israel's Ministry of Health on Friday reported 69,201 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 2,168,016.

Nearly 10 percent of the new cases, or 6,829 ones, have been infected with the virus at least the second time, with 3,023 of them vaccinated with one dose or more.

The death toll from the virus rose to 8,371, with two new fatalities added, while the number of patients in serious condition rose from 593 to 638, the highest figure since September 2021.

The number of active cases reached a new record of 427,023, while the rate of positive results from all daily COVID-19 tests in Israel hit a record of 20.13 percent.
