Iran reports 4,060 daily COVID-19 cases

TEHRAN, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Health Ministry on Wednesday reported 4,060 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country's total infections to 6,231,909.

The pandemic also claimed 19 lives in the past 24 hours, taking Iran's death toll from the virus to 132,132, said the ministry.

A total of 6,071,217 people have recovered from the disease or been discharged from hospitals across the country, while 1,271 remained in intensive care units, it added.

By Wednesday, 60,404,946 Iranians have received their first dose of vaccines, 53,334,908 of whom have taken two jabs, and 13,476,916 have got three shots.

In addition, 43,680,828 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in the country.

On Dec. 19, Iran reported its first case of the Omicron COVID-19 variant. According to the latest figure, over 1,533 Omicron cases have been detected in the country, of which three people have died.
