HARBIN, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Heilongjiang Province in northeast China is now covered with ice and snow. At the Harbin Siberian Tiger Park under the China Hengdaohezi Feline Breeding Center, the Siberian tigers have become more active and eat more throughout the winter. The breeding center has increased food supplies to help tigers weather the cold season.

China has intensified protection efforts for tigers in recent years, which has led to rising numbers of the big cat.

The country established the breeding center in 1986. There are more than 1,000 Siberian tigers at the center, compared with only eight in 1986.
