BERLIN, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Germany's information and communications technology (ICT) market is set to grow by 3.6 percent to 184.9 billion euros (209.5 billion U.S. dollars) in 2022, the country's digital association Bitkom said Tuesday.
During 2021, ICT revenues in Germany grew 3.9 percent to 178.4 billion euros. This was mainly due to good business in the IT hardware and software sector, Bitkom explained.
"The economy, government and large parts of society want to accelerate digitization and are investing in digital infrastructures, devices, software and services," said the association's president Achim Berg. "The coronavirus pandemic has given momentum to digitization, and that is stimulating the market."
Despite challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including supply bottlenecks, inflation and a shortage of skilled workers, the ICT sector in Germany is expected to create 39,000 new jobs this year. Last year, ICT jobs increased by 34,000 to a total of 1.25 million, Bitkom said.
Germany's ICT market will only account for four percent of total global spending in 2022, Bitkom added. This figure is declining every year because "investments and spending are growing faster in other countries." (1 euro = 1.13 U.S. dollars) ■
