The latest COVID-19 resurgence in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, has witnessed sharp decline in new cases.
The city reported 30 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases on Saturday. The new cases brought the total number of local cases in the city to 1,989 since Dec. 9, 2021.
On Saturday, Xi'an downgraded the classifications of five areas from medium-risk for COVID-19 to low-risk. The city currently has a total of three high-risk areas and 55 medium-risk areas.
A leading epidemiologist has projected that another major resurgence in the number of COVID-19 cases in Xi'an is unlikely.
