BEIJING, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- As the lunar New Year decorations adorn city streets, various tiger-themed events were held to greet the coming Chinese zodiac Year of the Tiger, which will fall on Feb. 1 this year.

The tiger is the third zodiac sign in the Chinese zodiac cycle. The Chinese zodiac cycle contains 12 animals that record years and reflect people's attributes: the rat, the ox, the tiger, the rabbit, the dragon, the snake, the horse, the sheep, the monkey, the rooster, the dog, and the pig.

The tiger is dubbed as the king of all beasts in China. In traditional culture, tigers often symbolize strength and courage. Many kids wear hats or shoes with tiger elements for good luck.
