MARGALIOT, Israel, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Israeli workers have disposed of a large number of eggs at a chicken farm in the northern Israeli village of Margaliot, in a bid to contain the bird flu that broke out in the north.

The pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza has killed over 5,000 migratory cranes at the Hula Lake park and forced local farmers to slaughter over half a million chickens. Israel's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development warned that a shortage of eggs is expected in the country due to the worst wildlife disaster in the history of the country.
