TEHRAN, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were killed in an explosion and subsequent fire in Shahid Mahallati flower market in the east of Tehran on Thursday, the official IRNA news agency reported.
A shop was hit by a gas explosion, as a result of which several shops were set on fire and destroyed, Jalal Maleki, spokesman for the Tehran Fire Department, told IRNA.
Two people were killed and several others were injured in the incident, he said, adding that the firefighting operation is over, but the debris removal and search operations are continuing.
The cause of the incident will be announced accordingly, said Maleki.
