BEIJING, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- A total of 98.7 percent of Chinese schools nationwide have implemented a mechanism to monitor the sleep quality of their students, according to the Ministry of Education (MOE) on Wednesday.

This is a result of a policy campaign targeting major issues among Chinese students, such as excessive use of mobile phones, a lack of sufficient sleep, onerous burdens of school assignments, and health problems, according to MOE official Lyu Yugang.

Over 96 percent of primary schools and over 97 percent of junior high schools in China have implemented the designated school start times outlined in the campaign, in a bid to improve students' sleep management, according to the MOE.

Measures to manage mobile phone usage and ensure sufficient physical exercise for students have also been effectively implemented in the vast majority of schools, the ministry said. Enditem
