KUWAIT CITY, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait seeks to benefit from the Chinese experience in containing the spread of coronavirus, a Kuwaiti official said Friday.

Speaking to the Kuwait TV, Sheikh Yousef Abdullah Sabah Al-Nasser Al-Sabah, director general of the Kuwait Ports Authority (KPA), said that KPA is cooperating with different institutions to contain the spread of coronavirus in Kuwait and they are highly interested in the Chinese experience.

"We are cooperating with the Kuwait's Ministry of Health along with various institutions in that matter, in addition to the constant contact with the Chinese embassy in Kuwait to keep us posted on the latest developments to protect our ports as China did," he said.

Regarding the precautionary measures, he said that KPA has closed Doha port.

Meanwhile, the main ports of Kuwait, which are Shuwaikh and Shuaiba ports, are regularly receiving supplies and other consumables, he stressed, assuring that the basic food is abundant for a full year.

Kuwait reported 20 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 100, the Ministry of Health said Friday in a statement.

Kuwait has taken several measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus, such as suspending commercial flights starting from Friday, closing mosques until further notice, in addition to closing public parks, stopping public transportation and suspending work in all government departments from March 12 to 26.
