NAIROBI, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's health ministry said Thursday it will conduct assimilation exercise in Nairobi on Sunday as part of preparedness against coronavirus.
Mutahi Kagwe, cabinet secretary for health said that the exercise will be held countrywide in all level four and five public health facilities as from Friday.
"The exercise will also be conducted on Sunday at Mbagathi district hospital in the outskirts of Nairobi," Kagwe told journalists.
Kagwe said that the exercise is necessary to help equip health personnel who have been trained in handling the COVID-19 in an outbreak in the country.
He said that no case has been reported in the country as the virus spreads globally.
He assured populations to remain calm, adding that the government has put in personnel and equipment ready to manage cases once reported.
"We are monitoring the situation locally and globally and we urge all citizens to take precautions," he said.
The official urged all politicians and opinion leaders to educate populations on how to handle COVID-19 cases.
