JERUSALEM, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the public on Wednesday to refrain from holding events with over 100 people due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
During the press conference, Netanyahu also recommended that the public refrain from holding any unnecessary gatherings.
This decision came a day after the Israeli Ministry of Health banned gatherings of more than 2,000 people.
Following the latest decision, most sports events in Israel will be held behind closed doors, while entertainment and cultural events such as shows, movies and concerts will be cancelled.
Many family events such as wedding ceremonies will also be cancelled because of the decision.
Israel is also considering closing universities and turning to distance learning.
So far, 82 Israelis have been infected with the coronavirus, of whom three have recovered.
