SARAJEVO, March 10 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) donated on Tuesday a hemodialysis apparatus to a local hospital in Gorazde, a small town southeast of the capital Sarajevo, according to an embassy press release.
Gorazde is the administrative center of the Bosnian-Podrinje Canton, one of BiH's ten autonomous cantons.
On Tuesday, Chinese Ambassador Ji Ping met with the canton's prime minister, Aida Obuca, and her ministers, and later he visited the cantonal hospital where the hemodialysis center is being built.
Currently, patients with kidney conditions have to travel about a hundred kilometers to Sarajevo for treatment.
Ji said that the donation was a symbolic gesture of friendship and that he expected cooperation to become more intense, especially in the fields of economy and culture.
Discussing the latest coronavirus-related developments in China, Ji said that China was willing to share experiences with BiH and to provide assistance in its fight against the epidemic.
Obuca said that China was the first country to respond to the canton's call for help in establishing the hemodialysis center and that the apparatus, worth 30,000 convertible marks (17,000 U.S. dollars) will improve the quality of life of 15 patients with kidney conditions.
