KUWAIT CITY, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait has decided to donate medical supplies worth of 3 million U.S. dollars to China to combat the novel coronavirus, Li Minggang, Chinese ambassador to Kuwait, said on Tuesday.

The supplies have been purchased and are being shipped to Wuhan in central China's Hubei Province, Li said.

After the outbreak of COVID-19 in China, Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah expressed support for China in combating the coronavirus in a cable sent to the Chinese side, Li told Xinhua in an interview.

Meanwhile, Chinese companies and expatriates in Kuwait have also voluntarily made donations to help their motherland in the fight, Li said.

There have been 69 confirmed coronavirus cases in Kuwait as of March 10 and most of them are people evacuated from Iran, the Chinese ambassador noted.

"We have strengthened communications with the Kuwaiti Health Ministry and Foreign Ministry, introducing the China's experience in fighting against the epidemic, which was highly valued by the Kuwaiti side," he said.

Officials from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health said that they would be willing to send medical teams to learn from China's successful experiences and practices after the epidemic ends, the ambassador said.

Li said that at a recent meeting with the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, the minister highly praised progress in China's fight against COVID-19.

"The minister believed in China's ability to win a complete victory over the epidemic and stressed that Kuwait is willing to strengthen its cooperation with China and learn from China's experience to jointly tackle the challenges," he added.
