BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism is supporting the country's growth by increasing output in the food sector, driving industrial progress, strengthening tourism, and advancing the development and conservation of forest resources.
The ministry highlighted these efforts during a dialogue session with members of the Legislative Council on Tuesday.
The ministry said that in 2025, the level of self-sufficiency for key food commodities recorded varying achievements. The supply of chicken eggs exceeded domestic demand by 112 percent, while chicken meat production reached full self-sufficiency at 100 percent.
However, self-sufficiency levels for buffalo and beef meat production remained low at 1.6 percent. Rice production continued to rely heavily on imports, with local production accounting for only 8.5 percent of national production.
According to the ministry, tropical vegetable production reached 78 percent self-sufficiency, while tropical fruits recorded 43 percent. The supply of fish and shrimp has achieved around 63 percent, reflecting steady growth in the fisheries sector. ■
