Voting begins in Maldives parliamentary election

COLOMBO, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Voting in the Maldives' parliamentary election began on Sunday morning after the opening of polling stations across the country and overseas.

A total of 368 candidates are vying for 93 seats in the parliament, with 42 candidates marking female representations.

More than 280,000 voters are eligible for this election.

The South Asian country has set up 602 polling stations across the constituencies, while three are stationed overseas in Colombo in Sri Lanka, Trivandrum in India, and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

Polls opened at 8 a.m. local time and will close at 5:30 p.m. in the country.
