SEOUL, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- A total of 21 people were injured Friday as explosions occurred after a fire broke out at a public bathhouse in South Korea's southeastern city of Busan, according to Yonhap news agency.

The fire started from the four-story bathhouse in Busan, some 320 km southeast of Seoul, at around 1:40 p.m. local time (0440 GMT), but firefighters brought the main flame under control later.

Unidentified explosions struck the site twice, wounding eight firefighters, three policemen, six civil servants and four citizens.

Among the injured, two firefighters were in critical condition, but no customer injury was reported as the bathhouse was closed for the day.

The explosions broke the wall of the bathhouse and spread strong fire rapidly. Some of the nearby buildings and houses suffered damage such as broken windows.

The police and the firefighting authorities were investigating the exact cause of the accident.
