KABUL, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's Ministry of Public Health has launched a campaign to vaccinate around 7 million children under five against polio, said a statement released by the ministry on Tuesday.
Aimed at eradication of the crippling disease among children in 26 out of the country's 34 provinces, the three-day campaign will conclude on Wednesday, the statement added.
Afghanistan, according to the statement, is nearing to become a polio-free country as so far this year only two cases of polio have been registered against four cases in 2021, while the war-torn country registered 56 polio cases in 2020. ■
