U.S. launches fresh strikes on Iran as Trump warns of more attacks
U.S. forces on Tuesday launched fresh strikes on targets of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Iran, marking a renewed escalation in hostilities between Washington and Tehran.
If Iran "retaliates for this very justified attack, they will be hit again at a much harder and higher level," U.S. President Donald Trump warned in a post on Truth Social, describing the new strikes near the Strait of Hormuz as "large and powerful."
"But it will not be the biggest attack of them all, that is waiting in the wings and, when it is over, there will be very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran!" Trump threatened in the post.
John Ternus succeeds Tim Cook as Apple CEO
Apple Inc.'s leadership transition took effect Tuesday, with John Ternus succeeding Tim Cook as chief executive officer and Cook becoming executive chairman of the company's board of directors.
Apple's updated leadership page lists Ternus as CEO and a member of the board, while Cook is now listed as executive chair.
Apple announced the succession plan on April 20, saying the transition had been unanimously approved by its board and followed a long-term succession planning process. Cook remained CEO through the summer and worked closely with Ternus on the transition. As executive chairman, Cook will continue to assist with certain aspects of the company, including engagement with policymakers around the world.
Belgrade meeting marks 65th anniversary of Non-Aligned Movement
High-level representatives from across the Global South gathered in Belgrade on Tuesday to mark the 65th anniversary of the first conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), reaffirming support for multilateralism, sovereign equality and respect for international law amid heightened global tensions.
The commemorative meeting at the Palace of Serbia brought together more than 30 delegations, including representatives of the movement's current leadership Troika -- Azerbaijan, Uganda and Uzbekistan -- as well as countries with longstanding ties to NAM.
The meeting opened with addresses by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Ugandan Vice President Jessica Alupo, who spoke on behalf of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, as Uganda currently chairs NAM.
Peru declares state of emergency in nearly 900 districts over El Nino risk
The Peruvian government on Tuesday declared a 60-day state of emergency in 893 districts across 23 regions due to the imminent risk posed by heavy rains associated with the 2026-2027 El Nino phenomenon.
The measure was made official through a supreme decree, published in the official gazette El Peruano, to prevent and reduce the "very high risk" of extreme rainfall over the coming months.
Regional governments will carry out intervention plans under the technical coordination and monitoring of the National Institute of Civil Defense, with support from relevant ministries and public and private institutions.■
