TRIPOLI, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed Friday after a fire broke out inside a cafe in southern Tripoli, the Libyan capital, local media reported.
The Security Directorate said in a statement that the blaze started at "Cafe Brown" in the Abu Salim area when gasoline was spilled onto an electric generator, triggering an explosion of a gas cylinder inside the cafe.
The directorate said an investigation is underway, while teams from the National Safety Authority have brought the fire under control.
Libya has suffered recurring power outages since mid-July, with demand surging amid high summer temperatures. Rolling outages have prompted many shops and cafes to rely on private fuel-powered generators, increasing risks associated with storing fuel near such facilities. ■
