Trump's approval rating falls to low point of 33 pct: poll
U.S. President Donald Trump's approval rating fell to 33 percent, the lowest level of his presidency, amid public concerns over the U.S. war against Iran, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll that concluded Monday.
Just 33 percent of respondents in the four-day survey said they approved of Trump's performance in the White House, while 64 percent disapproved, the poll showed.
Iran's IRGC rejects Trump's claim of backchannel talks
Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) on Monday rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's claim that there is a backchannel for talks between Washington and the IRGC.
In an interview with the semi-official Tasnim news agency, IRGC spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi called Trump's claim a "delusion," saying no dialogue is going on between the IRGC officials and the Americans.
DR Congo Ebola confirmed cases top 5,000
Confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have surpassed 5,000, with more than 2,320 deaths, as the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) warned Monday that the outbreak could become the deadliest Ebola epidemic ever recorded globally unless its trajectory is urgently reversed.
Three months after the outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo ebolavirus was declared, its evolution has "exceeded our gravest expectations," the Africa CDC said in a statement.
UNCCD COP17 opens in Mongolia's capital
The 17th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) officially opened in Ulan Bator, capital of Mongolia, on Monday.
Held under the theme "Restoring Land, Restoring Hope", COP17 brings together 12,000 representatives from the UNCCD's 197 Parties at a pivotal global forum aimed at accelerating action to combat desertification, land degradation and drought.
Death toll from E. Indonesia earthquake rises to 68
The death toll from a 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province has risen to 68, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said Monday.
"The fatalities include 26 in Manggarai regency, 24 in East Manggarai, eight in Nagekeo, four in Sikka, and two each in Ende, West Manggarai and Ngada, while 213 others were injured," BNPB Deputy for Prevention Abdul Muhari told a press conference.■
