In 2001, Wu Yaqin was elected Party secretary of the Party committee of Changshanhuayuan community, a residential compound originally built in 1987 as factory dormitories.

When she took office, the community lacked basic infrastructure and neighborhood disputes occurred frequently. Faced with these challenges, Wu Yaqin rose to the occasion and resolved to revamp the aging residential area. When funding fell short, she mobilized residents to sell ice cream and collect waste newspapers and plastic bottles to raise money for saplings and flower seeds. When roads were damaged, she led residents to collect stones and bricks to repair the pavement on their own. Over the years, she has addressed residents' most fundamental livelihood concerns one by one.

In addressing challenges in community governance, she has encouraged Party members to shoulder their responsibilities and take an active part in various volunteer services to solve residents' day-to-day troubles.

Today, Changshanhuayuan community has become a warm and caring neighborhood where residents live in harmony with one another. "Serving the people wholeheartedly means treating even trivial troubles of others as major hardships of your own." This is Wu's life motto, and her word is her bond.

Facing the emerging needs of residents, she set up home-based elderly care service centers. Paying close attention to residents' demands for higher incomes and employment opportunities, she arranged free skills training courses and reached out to investors to support residents to start their own businesses. To meet the after-school tutoring needs of children from dual-income families, she set up after-school care programs. With sincere dedication, she won the hearts of residents; through hard work, she earned their trust.

Today, 66-year-old Wu Yaqin remains firmly rooted in grassroots work. She mentors young community workers and passes down decades of accumulated work experience. She also shares work practices with grassroots colleagues nationwide who come to learn her work, providing valuable advice to improve the quality and efficiency of community governance elsewhere.
