BAGHDAD, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian discussed the necessity of continuing coordination to reduce regional tensions during a phone call on Tuesday, according to a statement by al-Zaidi's media office.

The two sides discussed bilateral relations and the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries to enhance mutual benefit for both peoples, the statement said.

The two leaders also emphasized the necessity of continuing regional and international coordination and cooperation to reduce tensions and promote dialogue, de-escalation, and stability in the region and the world, it noted.

The phone call came amid intensive international efforts to finalize a peace agreement between Iran and the United States to end a prolonged conflict. Over the past weeks, the two sides have reportedly exchanged several proposed plans outlining conditions for ending the conflict through Pakistani mediation.
