PHNOM PENH, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia has planned to send athletes to compete in 11 sports in the forthcoming 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, a sports official said on Monday.

Yean Kisivutha, director of Cambodia's National Sports Training Center, said the planned sports are swimming, athletics, boxing, jujitsu, judo, karate, taekwondo WT, triathlon, wrestling, e-sports, and Teqball.

"Among the 11 sports above, taekwondo WT and e-sports must first qualify to compete for a spot towards the official event in Japan," he said after a meeting on the preparations for the Games.

The 20th Asian Games will be held from September 19 to October 4, he added.

At the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2023, Cambodia earned a single bronze medal when the country's karate exponent trio claimed third place in the women's kata demonstration event.
