BERLIN, May 8 (Xinhua) -- A hostage-taking incident at a bank branch in the town of Sinzig, western Germany, ended on Friday after police rescued two persons believed to be victims, while the suspects remain at large, DPA reported citing the police.
The two persons were found unharmed after police stormed the bank branch. No suspects were found at the scene, and a manhunt is underway, according to police.
Police said the two persons had been locked inside a room, investigators believe the suspects had already left the building by unknown means before officers entered.
It remains unclear whether the suspects fled with any loot. Investigations are still going on.
Earlier in the day, the police believed that several perpetrators had taken hostages inside the bank branch. One of the victims was reportedly the driver of a cash transport vehicle.
Several hundred police officers were deployed to the scene, and the town center was cordoned off during the operation. ■
