JAKARTA, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia is considering the development of compressed natural gas (CNG) as part of efforts to reduce its reliance on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) imports amid uncertainty in global energy supply chains.

The issue was among the topics discussed in a meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia in Jakarta on Monday.

Bahlil said Indonesia's LPG consumption currently reaches around 8.6 million tonnes per year, while domestic production is only around 1.6 to 1.7 million tonnes, so the majority of demand is still met through imports.

In addition, the government is intensifying other strategies to achieve energy independence, including optimizing oil and gas lifting, expanding the B50 biodiesel program, and developing E20 bioethanol to strengthen the national energy mix.
