DHAKA, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Bangladeshi interim government has declared three days of state mourning from Wednesday to Friday following the death of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
The government also declared Wednesday a public holiday.
Bangladeshi interim government's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus made the announcements on Tuesday afternoon in a televised address to the nation.
Zia, also chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, passed away due to illness at the age of 80 in the capital Dhaka at around 6:00 a.m. local time Tuesday, her party said in a social media post. ■
