DHAKA, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Inflation in Bangladesh accelerated to 8.55 percent in July mainly driven by higher food prices, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) has said.

Inflation was 8.48 percent in June.

Food inflation soared 7.56 percent in July. In June, food inflation was 7.39 percent.

Non-food items inflation increased to 9.38 percent in July from 9.37 percent in June, the data showed.

The country's average inflation surged to 10.3 percent in the fiscal year 2024-25 (July 2024-June 2025), much higher than the budgetary target of 6 percent for the fiscal year.

In the previous fiscal year, overall inflation was 9.73 percent.
