SEOUL, May 29 (Xinhua) -- A military plane crashed in South Korea's southeastern city of Pohang, with no casualties confirmed, the defense ministry said Thursday.
The navy's P-3 maritime patrol aircraft with four crew members aboard took off from a military base for training at about 1:43 p.m. local time (0443 GMT), but it crashed near the base for unidentified reasons.
The ministry said no civilian casualty was found, adding that it was checking the survival of the four crew members.
According to Yonhap news agency, the patrol plane crashed on the hills around 1:50 p.m. local time (0450 GMT).
Smoke was rising from the middle of the hills, while firefighters were working to extinguish the fire. ■
