JERUSALEM, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday that Israel is "in a very high preparedness level" for any scenario, both defensively and offensively.
"We will exact a very heavy price for any act of aggression against us from any front," he said following a situational assessment at the Home Front Command.
The remarks were made as Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah announced that the Lebanon-based military group and party will avenge the assassinations of Fouad Shokor, a senior military advisor to Nasrallah, in Beirut and Hamas Politburo Chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
"You do not know what red line you have crossed," Nasrallah said in a speech made as part of Shokor's funeral, adding that "the war has entered a new phase." Hezbollah has "new commanders who can replace Shokor and others," he said, adding that the upcoming campaign will involve Iran, Yemen, and Iraq, in addition to Gaza and Lebanon.
Nasrallah also denied Hezbollah's involvement in the weekend's rocket attack on Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, which killed 12 youngsters.
Israel claimed responsibility for the killing of Shokor, saying it was a retaliation for the rocket fire, but has yet to confirm its involvement in the killing of Haniyeh. ■
