NANCHANG, July 16 (Xinhua) -- A court in east China's Jiangxi Province on Tuesday sentenced Li Dong, former deputy general manager of CHN Energy Investment Group (CHN Energy), to life in prison for accepting bribes.
Li was also deprived of his political rights for life, all of his personal property will be confiscated, and his illegal gains will be recovered and turned over to the state treasury, according to the court's ruling.
The Yichun Intermediate People's Court found that Li had taken advantage of his various positions at China Shenhua Energy Company Limited and its parent company, CHN Energy, between 1999 and 2023 to benefit organizations and individuals in product sales, coal procurement, business operations and career adjustments.
In return, Li accepted bribes worth over 108 million yuan (about 15 million U.S. dollars) in total, either personally or through others, though Li had not actually obtained part of that total, according to the ruling.
The court said that Li's actions constituted the crime of bribery, that an exceptionally high amount of money had been involved, and that he should be punished in accordance with the law. Li was cooperative throughout the investigation and in returning his illegal gains, and the court took these facts into consideration when handing down his sentence. ■
