KOBE, Japan, May 18 (Xinhua) -- China's Zhao Yuping took the gold medal in the women's javelin throw F13 final at the Para Athletics World Championships here on Saturday.

Zhao recorded a throw of 44.86 meters at the Universiade Memorial Stadium in the central Japanese port city of Kobe.

The 30-year-old Zhao, the current world record holder, led the game with each of her throws.

Austria's Natalija Eder finished second with her seasonal best of 38.52m.

After the final, Zhao told Xinhua that today's performance was within her expectations and that she will make full preparation for the upcoming Paris 2024.

Held in East Asia for the first time and a crucial qualifier for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, the Kobe 2024 Para Athletics World Championships attracted over 1,000 athletes from 100 countries and regions to compete in 168 events.

A total of 73 Chinese para-athletes are competing in the championships.

The championships, the 11th edition of its kind, will run until May 25. It was originally scheduled for 2021 but was postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
