GENEVA, May 13 (Xinhua) -- The emblem of the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup has been unveiled by the hosts Dominican Republic.

"(The emblem) is a bold and playful design that tells a story of joy, community and competition," FIFA announced on Saturday. "With the emblem, FIFA celebrates football and the identity of the Dominican Republic, its history and its important role as the host of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2024."

The design is inspired by "Batun" - a game played by Taino people using a rubber ball - and the "Bachata" and "Merengue" dances traditional to the country, FIFA explained.

The tournament will be played in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic and Santiago de los Caballeros, from October 16 to November 3, with 16 teams to compete for the final glory.

Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, New Zealand and the United States have already qualified for the tournament to join hosts Dominican Republic in the group stage. Six teams, three from Asia and three from Europe, will be confirmed in May while the other three will be finalized in June.
