NEW DELHI, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Around 95 children aged between four and 12 were rescued in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh when they were being illegally trafficked from the neighboring state of Bihar, confirmed a local official on Saturday.

The children were reportedly being trafficked inside a bus without their parents' consent. Officials of the Uttar Pradesh Child Commission rescued the children after getting tips about the illegal trafficking.

The rescue operation was carried out at Gorakhpur area of Uttar Pradesh on Friday. The bus was said to be moving towards the Saharanpur area of Uttar Pradesh.

"All the 95 children rescued are aged between four and 12 years. Most of them told us that they didn't know where they were taken. Their parents are being contacted, and the children will be soon handed over to them once they arrive," the official of local child welfare committee Sarvesh Awasthi was quoted by The Times of India newspaper as saying.
