WASHINGTON, March 14 (Xinhua) -- China's Yuan Yue finished her best ever Indian Wells run, falling to American Coco Gauff 6-4, 6-3 in Thursday's quarterfinals.
It was the best result Yuan ever achieved at a WTA 1000 event while Gauff will make her first semifinal appearance at Indian Wells.
In the duo's first career meeting, No. 3 seed Gauff needed 94 minutes to defeat the 25-year-old Yuan.
In the semifinals, Gauff will face No. 9 seed and 2022 Indian Wells runner-up Maria Sakkari of Greece who beat American No. 23 seed Emma Navarro 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
World No. 1 Iga Swiatek advanced to the other semifinal after former World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki retired due to a right foot injury while Swiatek was leading 6-4, 1-0.
Swiatek, the 2022 Indian Wells champion, will take on Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk who overcame Anastasia Potapova 6-0, 7-5. ■
