YANGON, March. 4 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar earned 3 million U.S. dollars from the export of 2,006 tons of honey in 11 months of the 2023-2024 fiscal year (FY), the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation said on Monday.

"We expect to export 2,300 tons of honey this fiscal year. It is expected to export 300 tons of honey in March, the remaining month of 2023-2024 FY," U Maung Tint, deputy director of the apiculture division under the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department of the ministry said.

Honey exports have increased by 24 percent in this fiscal year compared to the same period last year, he added.

To develop the beekeeping sector, distribution of qualified queen bees, activities related to disease control and prevention, bee comb management and education on food safety and beekeeping were carried out, U Maung Tint said.

In addition, technology training was provided to produce qualified honey, he added.

As a result, the quality and quantity of bees will improve and more will be exported, he explained.

Myanmar produces over 5,000 tons of honey from over 200,000 bee colonies in this fiscal year. 2,006 tons of the honey was exported to Japan, Thailand, China, Saudi Arabia and Singapore.
