NEW DELHI, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Police in the Indian capital region of Delhi on Saturday stepped up security and sounded an alert after a blast at a popular eatery in the southern city of Bengaluru injured 10, local media reports said.
The blast went off at the Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru during the lunch hour on Friday.
According to the reports, senior police officials in districts of Delhi have been directed to increase vigilance in crowded areas, especially the marketplaces.
The local market associations have been asked to remain alert and report to the nearest police stations in case they come across any suspicious object or activity. They have also been asked to tell shops to ensure their closed-circuit television cameras are functional.
The reports said police bomb disposal squads and bomb detection teams have been directed to remain alert.
Closed-circuit television camera footage accessed by the police in Bengaluru and aired by local television news channels shows a man wearing a face mask, glasses and a cap carrying a bag inside the Bengaluru cafe's premises. Police believed the man placed the bag near the eatery's handwash area and then left before the blast took place.
Police said the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device fitted with a timer.
