LAUSANNE, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- The International Gymnastics Federation (FIS) on Thursday announced the sport's first phase competition draw at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
World champions Japan (men) and the United States (women) will begin their Olympic campaigns on vault and balance beam respectively during the opening rounds of the artistic gymnastics competition at Paris 2024.
"The Olympic draw sets out the order athletes will compete in during the men's and women's team and individual qualifications, as well as individual apparatus finals," FIS announced in a statement.
The first step of the draw for the qualifications placed teams and mixed groups into the subdivisions and apparatus to decide the order. The second phase will take place after the last qualification event for Paris 2024, which will place individual gymnasts into the mixed groups.
12 teams per gender will compete in the team competition at Paris' Bercy Arena on July 27 to 30, and the top eight teams advance to the men's and women's team finals on July 29 and 30. ■
