WUHAN, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Chen Xuyuan, former president of the Chinese Football Association (CFA), stood trial on Monday for suspected bribery at a court in central China's Hubei Province.
Prosecutors accused Chen of taking bribes worth over 81 million yuan (about 11.4 million U.S. dollars).
The trial took place at the Intermediate People's Court of Huangshi City.
According to the indictment, between 2010 and 2023, Chen took advantage of his various posts, including those related to the CFA, to help others regarding project contracting, investment operations, and sporting event arrangements, accepting money and valuables in return.
Prosecutors presented their evidence at the court, which the defendant and his defense counsel cross-examined. Chen pleaded guilty and expressed remorse in his final statement.
The judgment will be announced in due course. ■
