MADRID, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid on Tuesday continued with their policy of extending the contract of key players, with the confirmation that Brazilian international central defender Eder Militao has agreed a new contract that will take his stay at the club until the end of June 2028.

The club has made the move despite the 25-year-old suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in the opening game of the season that has kept him on the sidelines ever since. The new contract is a signal of the Real Madrid's confidence in a player who has made 143 appearances since joining from Porto in 2019.

Militao's new contract sees him follow players such as Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, Fede Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga in agreeing extended deals, that have placed a release clause of 1,000 million euros on all of them.

Real Madrid is now thought to be working on a new deal for goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, whose current deal expires in the summer of 2026.
