LONDON, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- Newly-crowned FIFA Club World Cup champions Manchester City returned to the Premier League by coming from behind to win 3-1 win at Everton on Wednesday night.

Pep Guardiola's side looked to be in control and had already missed several chances when goalkeeper Ederson's poor clearance saw Everton pounce on the ball in midfield, allowing Dwight McNeil to set up Jack Harrison to put the Toffees ahead in the 29th minute.

Things got worse for City before halftime when John Stones had to leave the game with an ankle injury and was replaced by Josko Gvardiol.

Phil Foden leveled for the visitors with a fizzing near-post drive in the 53rd minute following a corner, and Julian Alvarez put City ahead 11 minutes later from the penalty spot after a handball in the area from Amadou Onana.

Bernardo Silva was excellent for his side all evening and scored the final goal of the game in the 86th minute with a clinical finish into an empty net.

An 89th-minute Noni Madueke penalty gave Chelsea a narrow 2-1 win at home to Crystal Palace after a VAR check ruled that Eberechi Eze had committed a foul inside the box.

Mykhailo Mudryk had put Chelsea ahead early in the game after a pass from Malo Gusto, but Michael Olise's excellent control and finish on the stroke of halftime looked as if it was going to give his side a point, before the late penalty arrived.

Wolves made it two wins from two as they stunned Brentford 4-1 in southwest London.

Mario Lemina put Wolves ahead in the 13th minute and Hwang Hee-chan doubled the lead just a minute later.

Yoane Wissa got Brentford back into the game in the 16th minute, but Hwang made it 3-1 in the 28th minute and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde ensured the win with just over 10 minutes left to play.
