SAO PAULO, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were killed and 12 others injured Friday in an explosion at a metallurgical factory in the southeastern Brazilian state of Sao Paulo, Governor Tarcisio de Freitas said.
"Unfortunately, we had two confirmed deaths from the explosion in a metallurgical plant in Cabreuva (municipality) this morning. Twelve injured people were rescued and are being treated in medical centers in the state," Freitas said on the social media X, formerly known as Twitter.
The explosion took place in an aluminum smelting furnace in the municipality located 60 km from the state capital of Sao Paulo.
The Sao Paulo Civil Defense said that two helicopters and several fire department tanker units arrived at the scene of the explosion, which generated a strong fire. ■
