ISLAMABAD, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the country's men's national team for the upcoming series against Afghanistan and Asia Cup, said a statement on Wednesday.

Inzamam-ul-Haq, the head of the national men's selection committee, named the 18-member squad for the One-Day International series against Afghanistan to be held in Sri Lanka from Aug. 22 to Aug. 26, 2023.

Inzamam-ul-Haq added that following the series against Afghanistan the team would be trimmed to 17 players for the Asia Cup, which will start in Pakistan's eastern city of Multan on August 30 when Pakistan will play Nepal.

The PCB has retained right-hand batsman Babar Azam as the side's captain and Shadab Khan as vice-captain.

Tayyab Tahir, Faheem Ashraf and Saud Shakeel have been included in the squad for the Afghanistan series and Asia Cup. At the same time, Shan Masood and Ihsanullah who played against New Zealand in April and May 2023 were dropped.

Inzamam-ul-Haq said Ashraf returned to the side after two years and added to the balance of the side as a fast-bowling all-rounder.
