XILIN GOL, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Tsogdelger, 35, is a herdsman from West Ujimqin Banner of Xilin Gol League in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The busiest season of the year for Tsogdelger's family is spring, during which lambing is the most important task.
"Every day, our job is to feed the sheep with grass and fodder in the morning, and water them at noon," Tsogdelger explained. "Sometimes at night, I even go to my sheepfolds to check if there are newborn lambs."
In recent years, the infrastructure in pastoral areas has improved significantly, resulting in enhanced efficiency of production and better living standard of herders.
Last year, Tsogdelger's home was connected to the network, which granted the family access to smart monitoring cameras in their pasture. "Nowadays we can monitor the location of our sheep flock by simply checking our mobile phones when we are out," added Tsogdelger.
West Ujimqin Banner has continuously strengthened the construction of animal husbandry infrastructure, increased technical guidance for lambing, and fully completed the work of animal epidemic prevention in spring. From the beginning of this year until March 30, the whole banner has witnessed 581,300 newborn lambs, and their survival rate reached 99.18%.
