NEW DELHI, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- India celebrated its 74th Republic Day here on Thursday, as visiting Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi attended the event as the chief guest.
President of India Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh were also present on the occasion, along with federal ministers, senior government officials, foreign diplomats and dignitaries, and thousands of other people as well.
India celebrates the Republic Day every year on January 26, as the country's constitution came into force on the day in 1950.
Several contingents belonging to different wings of the Indian military and other security forces marched past the "Kartavya Path", the road connecting the President's House with the historical India Gate. It was followed by a series of colorful tableaux depicting India's art and culture from different states. ■
