RAMALLAH, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian was killed on Wednesday by Israeli soldiers during clashes in a refugee camp east of the West Bank city of Nablus, the Palestinian health ministry said.
Ahmad Abu Jneid, 21, was critically injured by Israeli soldiers early Wednesday and later died from the wounds to the head in a hospital in Nablus, the ministry said in a press statement.
An Israeli army force stormed the Balata refugee camp to arrest a Palestinian wanted by Israel and besieged a house, before fierce clashes broke out between dozens of Palestinians and the Israeli soldiers in the refugee camp, said Palestinian security sources and eyewitnesses.
Several explosions were heard in the camp, they added.
Meanwhile, the Israeli media reported that the Israeli army forces were attacked by Palestinian fire when carrying out a regular security operation in the Balata refugee camp, saying one of the Palestinian militants who opened fire was injured.
No injuries were reported among the Israeli soldiers, the reports added.
The Israeli army has been carrying out daily raids on Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps in the West Bank to arrest Palestinian suspects involved in shooting attacks at the Israeli soldiers and settlers. ■
