GENEVA, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines tipped off a volunteer program for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, local organizers announced via the world basketball governing body on Wednesday.
The 2023 World Cup will start on August 25 and will be held in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia, with the Philippines to host half of the group stage matches and the entire final phase.
The FIBA called for volunteers on its website, saying, "A major component of the success of any event is volunteering, and the volunteers who make events such as the FIBA Basketball World Cup so enjoyable for fans and participants are instrumental to its success."
The Araneta Coliseum and Mall of Asia Arena in Manila will host the group stage, and the final stage will be played at the Philippines Arena in Manila.
This is the first time the World Cup has been held in the Philippines since 1978. ■
