MUMBAI, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed and eight injured in India's financial capital Mumbai when a speeding car rammed into three waiting cars and an ambulance on the city's sea-link early Wednesday.
Surveillance video footage of the accident, which occurred at 2:20 a.m. local time, showed an ambulance and three damaged cars standing on the 5.6 km-long sea-link that connects Mumbai's western suburb Bandra with Worli in South Mumbai.
The ambulance and other vehicles were parked on the side of the 8-lane sea-link to take injured victims of an earlier accident to the hospital. While the team was preparing to take the injured into the ambulance, a high-speed car crashed into those vehicles.
Of the eight injured admitted to the hospital, two persons were discharged after treatment while three of them are in critical condition, a police statement said.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's office expressed condolences on a social media site.
"Pained by the loss of lives due to an accident on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai. Condolences to the bereaved families. I hope that those who have been injured have a speedy recovery." ■
