TEHRAN, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- At least 16 people were killed and another eight were wounded in a minibus-truck crash in southwestern Iran on Tuesday morning, the semi-official Mehr news agency quoted a provincial health official as saying.
The minibus collided with the truck on the road from Gavmishabad to Shushtar in the southwestern province of Khuzestan, said Mojtaba Kalantar, the head of Shushtar's University of Medical Sciences.
He added seasonal workers were on board the minibus, noting that emergency and rescue teams, as well as 11 ambulances, were immediately sent to the scene of the incident.
Earlier in the day, Aref Asl Sharhani, the director of the public relations office of Khuzestan's medical emergency center, said a helicopter had also been sent for transferring the injured to the hospital.
The cause of the deadly incident is under investigation by the provincial police. ■
