KABUL, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have seized 48 assault rifles including AK-47 in the eastern Nangarhar province, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported on Thursday.
In the operation, security personnel also discovered a large quantity of other weapons and ammunition including anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, the report said.
In another development, security forces have seized a cache of arms and ammunition including U.S.-made M16 rifles in the neighboring Paktia province, according to a statement of the province's information and culture department released Thursday.
Afghanistan's Taliban-run administration has vowed to recover weapons from individuals as part of an effort to ensure law and order in the war-torn Asian country. ■
